Davis L. Ford comes from a ranching and agricultural background. His
grandfather, G.C. Davis, cowboyed in the early 1900s around Archer County,
Texas. His father farmed in Deaf Smith County, Texas, and was a breeder of
Murray Gray cattle until his death in 1972. His brother, John, was Assistant
Deputy Secretary of Agriculture in the Reagan administration. His sister,
Susan Ford Wiltshire, is a classics professor at Vanderbilt University.
He is a practicing environmental engineer with approximately forty-two years
of experience in the field. He has worked with over one hundred and fifty
industries and municipalities in the area of water pollution control, toxic
reduction, environmental management, and remediation. In addition to his
experience as a practitioner, he is serving on the faculty at the University
of Texas at Austin as an adjunct professor, had published over one hundred
technical papers, and has co-authored or contributed to six textbooks. He
has lectured extensively throughout the United States and many foreign
countries in Europe, South America, and Asia.
Ford received his bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering at Texas A&M
University and his master and doctorate degrees in Environmental Engineering
at the University of Texas at Austin.
Ford is a Distinguished Engineering Graduate at both Texas A&M University
and the University of Texas at Austin, as well as a Distinguished Alumnus
of Texas A&M. He is past president of the American Academy of Environmental
Engineers and chairman of the Academy Ethics Committee. He was elected
into the National Academy of Engineering. His honorary affiliations include
Tau Beta Pi, Sigma Xi, and Chi Epsilon.
He was raised in Lubbock, Texas, and currently resides in Austin with his
wife, Gwen. They have three married daughters: Kelly Sharp, Kristy Knippa,
and Katy Turberville.
